The Suez Crisis- Story of the World Book 4

 The Suez Crisis was supposed to be a way for the British and French to take back control of the Suez Canal that was finished in 1869. This important waterway shortened the time and distance for shipping from the Far East to the Middle East and Europe. 

Nasser who had overthrown King Faruk wanted to charge money for shipping to use the canal so he could build the Aswan Dam on the Nile River, and expand Egyptian agriculture.

Homework: 

Choose a side, British, French, Israel, USA,  Egypt or Soviet Union. 

Write an opinion piece to be published in a newspaper about the Suez Crisis from your chosen countries' point of view.
