Science Experiment that you can do at home

Science Experiment that you can do at home!

Today in English class we are going to study the properties of water.  This is one of the factors that help drive the weather on Earth.

Purpose to find out how much water expands or contracts when it is in different environments.

Here is a picture of two different cups that were filled to the same line. One was put in a hot part of my apartment that got a lot of sun for a week.

The second cup was put in a cold part of the apartment that didn't get a lot of sun for a week.

As you can see, the one cup that was in the hot part, more water evaporated.

Now we want to refine this experiment.

Proocedure:
 1. Take three plastic cups, measure around them, to get the circumference, and height.
 2.  Make a line on all three cups at the same point.
 3. Fill each cup with water to the line.
 4. Put the cups in different places in the apartment or house, One in a hot place, One in a cold place and one in the freezer.
 5. Leave the cups there for a period of time.
6. At the end of the week, measure all three cups again. Height and width.

Record your data.  Record how many days you left your cups in their places.
Which cup did the water level lose the most?  Gain the most?  Stay the same?
What changes would you do to make this experiment even better?

Good Luck!
