The Cold War lasted from 1945- 1991.
There were many factors that made it a Cold War, because the two main nations the USA and the USSR both had stockpiles of weapons that made possible for the first time in history that the two countries could believable destroy each other.
As a result they fought an arms race, proxie wars, and the space race.
