 The Louisiana Purchase has been called the  best Real Estate Deal of the United States has ever purchased. 

Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States in 1801, wasn't even sure that buying foreign land was constitutional, but he did it anyway for the strategic port of Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi River.
