The Nazca lines Story of the World Book 1 Lesson Plan

The Nazca lines are one of the mysteries of the world.  How could people who lived at the same time as the Romans, but in South America made these giganitc pictures of people, animals and shapes when they couldn't fly to see them.

We are studing the Nazca Lines in the Story of the World Book 1 149-150

Summarize the text: Tell about the subject and how the author describes the lines.

Next: go to this site and look at the lines from an airplane!

Now study still pictures of the lines:

Here is one theory about how the lines were made:

Activity:

Get into pairs in your class, or if you are on line this activity can work too!

One person draws a picture, and then explains to the second person how to draw it, but don't peek!  The second person draws the picture, and then they both show the pictures! Do they match?  Think about how hard it was for the Nazca to draw these gigantic pictures in the ground!

I did this with my student today, and the results were very fuuny!
