The Carrot Seed - Lesson Plan

 

This book was first published in 1945, and has never been out of print!  

Children and adults love the simple language and expressive illustrations. 

It is a great book to teach for ESL students because the text repeats itself. 



 


Vocabulary 
plant  - to put  seeds into the ground  so they can grow. 

afraid - concerned 

come up - to grow 
 
pulled up weeds - take unwanted plants from the ground

sprinkled - put a bit of water 

still - keep on doing it 


Practice reading this book, and put different voices for each of the people.

Grow a Carrot!! 

Take a carrot and plant it: 
1. Take a carrot, and cut the end of the carrot off. (you can eat the rest of the carrot.)
2 Put it in water covering the cut end.
3. Leave it in a sunny place for a while. 
4. Watch it for when it grows roots. 
5. Plant it in soil. 
6. Sprinkle the carrot with water every day and pull up the weeds. 
7. When you have a lot of green leaves, pull up  your carrot and eat it.
