Timelinks G5 Lesson Plan, Pages 77-81

The Search for the Northwest Passage.

Warmup:

Have you ever wished to go somewhere where that was very far away? Where would it be?  What would you do there?

Background:

Many people thought that since Europe and Asia had rivers that flowed East - West that North America would also have  river like that.  It was just a natural assumption.  It would also be very  convenient , you could sail your ship West, and come out the other side, and be very close to Asia.  Trade would be easy and not take so long to get there and go back to Europe.  Merchants would make a lot of money.
