Read chapters 4 5 and 6 and then discuss these questions with your teacher.
Chapter 4
1.You are the Doctor, give a report to your superior at the hospital about Jane's recent illness, and how she is treated in the household.
Tell about her daily life, where she sleeps and how she is treated in Gateshead.
2. Mr. Brockelhurst comes to meet Jane.
Jane writes a diary entry about the visit. What did she hope would happen, and then what really happened.
3. Jane says the truth to Mrs. Reed. How does she take it? If you were Jane, would you change what you had said to be nicer? What would be the result?
4. How does Jane's feeling change toward Bessie?
Chapter 5
1. How does Jane feel about leaving Gateshead? Bessie? Mrs. Reed?
2 How does Jane feel about the journey to the school?
3. First impressions are often right. Jane discusses her first impressions to one of her friends. Tell her speech.
4. Tell about the routine of the school. What happens first, second, third etc.
5. What was the effect of the burnt porridge?
6. How do we know that Miss Temple is Jane's favorite teacher?
7. How do the teachers discipline the girls?
8 Jane writes another diary entry about how her new friend deals with being punished. What attitude does she have? Why?
Chapter 6
1. What type of learning does Jane do best?
2. How does she feel when she gets to sew?
3. Helen and Jane talk about the future. What is the difference between their viewpoints?
4. Helen writes a letter to one of her relatives about Jane. You write her letter.
