King James I of England and Scotland - Lesson Plan






Today we are studying King James I of England and King James VI  of Scotland,  You might be surprised to know that they are the same person! 


Read pages 31-33 Then answer these questions

Who raised James?  
Why didn't he remember his mother?  
What ideas did his tutor have about kingship? 
When James grew up did he like the same ideas? Why or Why not? 
What booklet did he write? 
When did he become King of England? Why?
Which famous person was supposed to be at his coronation?  
What disease was prevalent during this time? 
How many people came to the coronation? 
Where did James and Anne go to get the crowns?
Who did James make enemies of?  Why?
How many different types of Christianity were there in England at this time? 
What were they called? 
What did Guy Fawkes want to do? Did he succeed? 
What do people in England do on Guy Fawkes day? 
How did King James feel about the laws of England? 
What did he do right? 
What do you feel about this? 


Homework: 
You are Guy Fawkes, write a letter to your cousin, asking him to help you.  Explain why you want to blow up Parliament, and how you are going to do it. Ask for his help.
